Apple slice Recipe


Ingredients:
1 x 340g pkt homebrand butter cake mix
100 g butter or margarine, melted
1 x 425g can pie apples, drained (or 1 1/2 cups drained stewed apples)
1 x 300-400 ml tub sour cream
2 eggs, lightly beaten
2 tblsp grated lemon zest (optional)
1 tblsp ground cinnamon

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 180°C
Line the base & sides of a 30-cm x 20-cm slice tin with baking paper, making sure the paper extends up the sides of the tin

Do not follow the instructions on the cake mix packet - instead, combine cake mix with the melted butter or margarine & mix well

Press mixture into prepared tin
Cook for about 15 minutes or until lightly browned
Remove but leave oven on
Cool base slightly, then spread apple over to cover

Beat sour cream, eggs & lemon zest (if using) until smooth, then pour mixture over the apples

Bake for about 30 minutes or until custard is set

Sprinkle the top with cinnamon
Allow to cool in the tin, then refrigerate until cold

Cut into squares to serve
